Rising gas prices will mean paying more for school lunches. Some school children will be paying as much as fifty percent more for school meals when they return to class in the fall.

School lunch basics like milk, cheese, and bread are seeing double-digit price increases - but the National School Lunch Program only increased what it pays schools by three percent. That means schools are losing money serving lunches.

Cheaper lunches now cost about $2.66 to prepare but Federal subsidies pay only $2.47 for "free lunch" students.
