Police Found Objects of Sexual Nature In Accused Kidnapper's Car, More Charges Tacked On

The man accused of kidnapping a nine–year–old girl is facing more charges.

Forty–year–old Michael Byerrum is now facing charges of attempted sexual assault. The District Attorney's Office says after executing a search warrant, police found objects of a sexual nature in byerrum's car.

Authorities say Byerrum kidnapped the 9–year–old from outside her home, threw her in his trunk and drove off.

Court documents state he told the child he was going to kill her, but police say the young victim was able to escape after biting Byerrum on the nose.

She was found safe near the Department of Energy. Byerrum was arrested just a few hours later near the desert.

He'll be back in court in July. He is being held at the Mesa County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
