A stubborn brush fire near Whitewater took hours to extinguish.

Mesa County Sheriff's Office says it took nearly five hours to extinguish the fire off Kannah Creek road.

They say a 17 year old lit the trash on fire and then the wind picked up, spreading the flames across seven acres of land.

For a while the house was threatened to be engulfed in flame, but crews were able to save the house.

No one was injured.
