Lawmaker Thinks Proposed Oil, Gas Rules May Go Too Far

Grand Junction, Colo. (AP) State rep. Kathleen Curry says she'll sponsor a bill next year to clarify the legislature's intent when it approved an overhaul of oil and gas regulations.

Critics of proposed changes in the oil and gas rules say they go further than lawmakers intended when they directed that more attention be given to the impacts on public health, wildlife and the environment.

Curry says she tinks the rules proposed by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation commission to carry out that mandate exceed what the legislature had in mind.

Some proponents of updating the regulations think they aren't tough enough. Those include the Colorado Wildlife Commission.
