A car fire may play a role in an ongoing Mesa County Homicide investigation.

This week the Mesa County Coroner's office ruled the death of a Whitewater man a homicide. 62-year-old Alan Helmick was discovered dead in his home Tuesday with a gun shot wound to the head.

11 news has learned deputies are gathering information from Delta police about an arson case.

Officers in Delta say Helmick and his wife found their car on fire in April. They called it suspicious and no suspects were ever named.

The Mesa County Sheriff's office would not comment on the Delta incident.
