Two kayakers went out on Plateau Creek late last night and one of the men's kayak tipped leaving him stranded at the base of a cliff.

The kayakers went through a section of rapids and one of the men capsized and lost his kayak. About a mile down the creek, his friend noticed he wasn't close behind. Minutes later, an empty kayak came floating up the creek, but his friend was no where to be found.

He walked back and found his friend and called for help.

The Mesa County Search and Rescue Technical Team had to be called out. They repelled over a cliff and were finally able to rescue the stranded kayaker.

It took about three hours to rescue the kayaker. He was taken into an ambulance and warmed with blankets.

Rescuers say the kayakers weren't dressed for the elements
