MESA COUNTY, Colo (KKCO)-- School District 51 officials have released three schools from lockdown.

Fruitvale Elementary, Bookcliff Middle and Nisley Elementary Schools were all placed on lockdown around 1 p.m. after a woman called 911 to report a suicidal man in the area, according to Mesa County Sheriff's Office public information officer Heather Benjamin.

The woman was concerned that the man may have a weapon. Benjamin said that out of an overabundance of caution, authorities called for the schools to be closed in case the man became a threat to students.

Sheriff's deputies contacted the man and found that he had no weapons and was not a threat.

The schools were then released from lockdown or shelter in place, and all activity has returned to normal.
