Foreclosures Force Owners to Surrender Pets

The number of home foreclosures in Mesa County is up, and with it, so is the number of pets being surrendered at County Animal Services and the Roice Hurst Humane Society.

According to the Mesa County Public Trustee, the number of county home foreclosures filed so far this year is up fourteen-percent, compared to the same time last year.

County Animal Services and the Roice Hurst Humane Society say it's a heartbreaking scenario, often with few options.

Both agencies say if you do have to give up your pet, make sure you try to make arrangements ahead of time.
