Firefighters have a brush fire in the Redlands under control, but will keep crews out through the night to watch for hot spots.
It took Four Grand Junction Fire Units, two from the BLM and Mesa County Sheriff's Office more than five hours to control the five acres blaze. Firefighters say the fire, just south of the Colorado river near the 340 bridge, was hard to access. Only one brush truck was able to provide one line of water to the fire, the Sheriff's Office quickly launched a boat in the river and set up a floating pump next to GJFD's, which provided four more lines.
The fire started around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon and was controlled around 9:30 that night. No one was injured and no structures were threatened.
