A new study shows Rifle may be becoming too dependent on the energy industry.

Denver–based BBC Research and Consulting found the city's agriculture and tourism industries could suffer if the oil and gas boom stops.

It points to urbanization, a lack of hotel rooms and declining aesthetics.

Rifle Mayor Keith Lambert says becoming a one–industry city could trigger another ``Black Sunday," the day in 1982 when Exxon closed its $5 billion dollar oil shale project and 2,200 people near Parachute lost their jobs.
