Mesa State Student Faces $121 Million Dollar Lawsuit

One Grand Junction man could have to pay more than $100 million dollars for just seven songs he downloaded over the Internet.

Official court documents say Jacob Richards illegally shared files on Limewire a popular file sharing program. The lawsuit is by multiple record companies.

Richards says he first learned he was being investigated last June. Documents accuse Richards of having 807 audio files in his Limewire account, but documents say the record companies can only prove 7 of the 807 audio files were being shared illegally.

Attorney for the plaintiffs Andrew Mohraz says he has no comment at this time on the case.

Richards has until July 16th to answer to the lawsuit. His first official court appearance is scheduled for August 7th in Denver.
