Fire on 23 Road Ignites Ammunition

A grass fire quickly spreads burning down a shed and catching a house on fire Tuesday. Fire crews had to battle flames as well as exploding ammunition.

As flames quickly engulf a shed and ate away at an attached garage, neighbors of this usually quite suburb watched with concern.

Crews kept everyone at a safe distance while the sounds of exploding ammunition echoed through the streets.

Four engines from the Grand Junction Fire Department quickly tackled the blaze. Woodpiles and debris around the shed added fuel to the quickly spreading flames and even after crews contained the fire neighbors were still hosing down hot spots.

Fire crews are still investigating the cause of the fire, witnesses say they were shocked at how quickly the flames spread.

Nobody was injured in the blaze. Fire officials say they estimate damages to be around $50,000.
