FLAME Act Making Progress

A bill that would set up a federal fund to fight wildfires is one step closer to getting on the books.

The Federal Land Assistance Management and Enhancement act, known as the FLAME act, would set aside money, set up a management strategy and a system to look at the level of risk in different communities.

A US House Committee passed the bill yesterday. Representative Mark Udall is the bill’s sponsor and syas it’s especially important to Colorado because of the increasing risk for wildfires due to drought and the Bark Beetle epidemic.

The bill is headed to a final vote on the house floor.
