Fire crews continue to monitor hot spots near the Town of Mesa Saturday after a brush fire came dangerously close to several homes and forced evacuations.
Just after 8:00 Friday night, BLM and Plateau Valley fire crews were called out to 48 1/4 Road after receiving reports of a growing brush fire.
Officials say flames came within 40 feet of three homes, forcing their residents to evacuate.
A BLM attack plane was called in to assist and made two air drops on the blaze.
Firefighters were able to control the three acre fire before it was able to reach any structures, and residents were let back into their homes just after midnight.
Fire officials say the fire was caused by welding and cutting operations going on in the area. They have not decided if anyone will be cited.
As of 10:30 Saturday morning, officials say the fire is 100 percent contained. They say with the dry and windy weather conditions, crews will remain on scene monitoring hot spots to makes sure the fire does not reignite.
