Texting Benefits as Well as Dangers

While the casual conversation may be writing its last will and testament in the light of increased texting, communication is not completely lost.
T–Mobile estimates 65 percent of parents who text their teens report that texting improves relationships. Text messaging is fast becoming a tool more and more parents are becoming familiar with.

However, texting while doing activities like walking or driving can lead to injury. "We need all of our senses to let us recognize that there is an impending danger and texting just takes that attention away," says Doctor Jeffrey Augenstein of the U.M Ryder Trauma Center.

In California two pedestrians were killed while texting on their cell phones. Augenstein says an even bigger danger is texting while driving. "There are some who feel that texting may be as dangerous as drinking alcohol and it takes that much attention or ability away from the driving experience."
