A little boy who's fighting cancer got a special surprise at the Glacier Ice Arena Friday.

The ice center let him ride on a zamboni.

Three-year-old Martell Smith has neuroblastoma. Three months ago he had a stem cell transplant at the Phoenix Children's Hospital.

He's in town visiting his grandparents, and Friday afternoon he zipped around the rink with his sister.

His mom says his favorite sport is hockey, so she wanted to do something light hearted and fun for him.

"Going to the hospital once a month, sometimes twice a month is normal for him, so we try to do everything we can to make it as normal as possible for him," said Yvonne Smith.

Martell's parents walked in the Fruita Relay for Life Friday night
where he was honored as the youngest ambassador in the event.
