Bad Check Writing Parent Found Guilty

A parent who wrote a bad check for more than $1,000 for a fundraiser has been sentenced after pleading guilty.

Grand Junction police say 29-year-old Christina Kaye Shepard wrote a check for candy to Nisley Elementary School for candy. The check came back insufficient funds.

District 51 officials say they tried to work something out with Shepard but couldn't and they turned the matter over to the police.

Shepard pleaded guilty to check fraud charges.

She was given a deferred judgment. If she complies with the court, the charges will be dropped from her record.
