Colorado's New Boating Under the Influence Law took effect August 5th. Originally the legal BUI level was .10 and affected motorized boats and sail boats. The new law changes that level to .08, the same level as road vehicles, and now affects any watercraft operated by motor, wind, paddle and oar. This would include, kayaks, canoes and rafts.
Penalties for BUI could include:
Imprisonment for five days to one year.
Loss of privilege to operate a vessel for 3 months
Court-imposed fines between $200 and $1,000
Court ordered community service up to 96 hours
