With school starting back up, the Labor Day holiday almost here and football season just getting underway, the Grand Junction Police Department wants you to keep in mind it’s cracking down on DUI drivers.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this time of year is the most dangerous for DUI deaths.

This time last year, sixteen people were killed in alcohol–related crashes; nearly one, every day.

Grand Junction Police says in the upcoming weeks, officers will have added checkpoints and extra patrols, dedicated to hunting solely for DUI offenders.

But officers say they'd rather just not catch you at all.

Officials say play it safe, and have a designated driver.
