The first bell shall toll for Grand Junction schools Monday morning, but many students aren't ready just yet for the new academic year. On Sunday night, Wal-Mart and Office Max were loaded with students and parents who were putting the finishing touches on their school supply lists.
Many of those students were basically done shopping, but a couple of college freshmen we ran into haven't even started buying school supplies. They say they were far more worried about moving into their dorm, "It's like moving into an apartment, I have to buy a new rug," said Kelly. "And I still need to get one of those huge mirrors that hangs over our door," added her roommate Ray.
Retailers say the night before the first school day is much like the night of Christmas Eve... busy. Department stores piling on last minute sales and discounts to feed the need of pens, pencils and notebooks for students everywhere.
