Lonnie Herrera Sentenced: A Century Behind Bars

Lonnie Herrera, the man who shot and killied his ex-girlfriend in front of her children, has been sentenced to more than 100 years behind bars.

On March 30, 2008 Herrera shot his eight and a half month pregnant girlfriend Anna Macias in the neck while two of her four children watched.

Emergency crews delivered the baby via emergency c–section, but the little girl died two days later.

In June, Herrera entered a guilty plea to second degree murder as part of a plea deal with the District Attorney's Office.

Both sides wanted to avoid making Macias' children testify.

Herrera also pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon by a previous offender with a sentence of six years and four other habitual criminal charges.

The District Attorney's Office will drop all other charges.

Macias' family says even Herrera's likely life sentence is not enough.

Herrera was on parole when he was arrested for beating Macias just two weeks before the shooting.

I'm a great niece to Lonnie, and I can't even begin to tell how disgusted and horrified I am with him. I don't even want to acknowledge him as the same blood as me. What he did is just horrible. I wish there were a way for him to get what he deserved. Not only did two lives end that day, but many more were effected. If there were a way for justice to be fully served, I would wish it upon him. You can't just do something like that, and expect nothing to happen. He didn't get what he deserved. He will never be family to me.

They were both in my house 24 hours before the shooting. Being family it is a sad thing that it had to come to this she was a beautiful woman and he was a good guy. It is a tragic incident.

I totally agree with "Angry in the South". I have always said that if we could get someone in office that would allow people to be killed, raped, beaten the same exact way they did it to their victims, I bet alot of this crap would stop. And don't wait years to do it and waste our money, do it the day they are sentenced.

So he will be out in like 10 years? He should have gotten the death penalty. Not only do we waste money on housing these worthless murderers, but we also give them the chance to go free and murder again. Hey, he will even get a free college education, cable tv, air conditioning, chance to earn money even while in prison. Oh yeah, justice has been served....the American way. Ridiculous.

Why do we waste our time and $$ on this kind of scum? I say that if you have 100% proof that a person killed their partner or an innocent child or elderly person, they should be taken to their cell and killed in the same manner as their victim!!! Enough of feeding, clothing, housing and educating worthless pieces of $&#@ like this!!! We, the law abiding citizens, need to stand up and let the courts know we have had enough...An eye for and eye!!!!
