Mesa County to File Litigation Against DeBeque

Mesa County will go forward with litigation against DeBeque over a land dispute.

County Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to allow the Mesa County's Attorney's Office to file legal action against DeBeque for the annexation of three properties known as the Carretto One, Newpark Annexation, and a renewed complaint on the Vaughn Annexation.

The county claims DeBeque has not properly planned for the potential growth in those areas and therefore should not have tried to annex them away from the county into the township. County Commissioner Craig Meis says DeBeque has not adequately planned for growth in the area from the oil industry specifically traffic infrastructure, sewer, and water.

All three properties run adjacent to Interstate 70 and are not residential.

In my opinion I think Debeque should be able to keep that land, and use it for other things or wait for the area to be ready for a a "upgrade" with sewer and water, etc.
