Economy Hurting Local Charities

The economy continues to dwindle, causing more folks to require help from charities, and less folks able to donate. Angela Walsh from Grand Junction Community Outreach on South 1st St. says she has never seen their pantry supplies get so low. One main cause of that could be the increasing amount of people who require their services. There are some days where the Community Outreach serves more than 250 meals in one 45 minute lunch.

The Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies has noticed similar problems. Starlene Collins from the Food Bank says their supplies for this time of year are not what they should be. While they aren't expecting to have disastourusly low supplies come wintertime, they certainly are aware a potentially huge problem if donations continue to dip.

If you would like to donate you can contact Grand Junction Community Outreach at (970) 243-0091 or you can reach the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies on the internet at: www.foodbankrockies.org.
