Delta County Fire Grows Overnight, but Now Mostly Contained

A fire in burning in Delta County tripled in size from 80 to 250 acres however crews are getting a handle on it this morning as it's now 75% contained.

Favorable conditions overnight helped crews out, but windy conditions today could make full containment more of a challenge. The fire is buring between Cedaredge and Hotchkiss off Redlands Mesa Rd.

A ground crew from Buena Vista will be on scene this morning to help around 50 firefighters contain the fire.

On Thursday night more than 30 people were evacuated from their homes , and two homes were destroyed. One of the homes as vacant at the time of the fire.

Officials say most of the families have been allowed to return to their homes. Those who haven't gone home are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The fire sparked around 4:00 PM Thursday afternoon and spread quickly because of high wind in the area. Fire officials say they do not know how the fire started. Investigators will be interviewing residents today.
