Grand Junction High School is mourning the loss of 60-year-old Flo Gallagher, who worked there as an English teacher.
School District 51 officials remember Gallagher as an outstanding teacher, who they say brought so much joy and fun into the lives of her students and co-workers.
Gallagher taught at Grand Junction High School for ten years, before retiring in 2007. But officials say her passion for teaching did not end there. Gallagher continued to work as a substitute teacher, and officials say she recently finished a short-term job in Fruita this school year.
"It's a sad day when that happens, especially for no reason," said Chris Saulmon, a GJHS senior."But, yeah, the school is pretty devastated."
"It's just horrible, a lot of teachers were crying," said Cayda Hunter, a GJHS junior. "It was just sad to see and hear about."
School District 51 officials say their crisis team spent time at the high school Monday. They say their thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with the Gallagher family.
