GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Colorado State Patrol troopers and parks officials cracked down on drunk drivers and boaters over the Memorial Day weekend, and their efforts resulted in a lot of arrests.
Between CSP and Colorado Parks and Wildlife, there were 130 DUIs and 3 boating-while-intoxicated arrests in and around state parks.
Statewide, CSP troopers reported a total of 318 DUI arrests and five alcohol-related car crashes over the Memorial Day enforcement period.
Troopers also say there were six fatalities this year, which is an increase over 2012.
However, overall DUI arrests are down from 542 last year.
CSP says the 100 deadliest days on Colorado roads started May 24, and statewide law enforcement agencies have increased DUI enforcement through Labor Day.
Good news for Mesa County and the rest of the Western Slope: we did not make the list of the top 10 counties for DUI offenses in 2012.
