Honor Flight Sends WWII Vets to See War Memorial

A new program honoring veterans is taking to the skies in Grand Junction.

Honor Flight held a kick-off news conference and meeting to organize volunteers and talk about fundraising. The program offers a free trip for World War Two veterans to go to Washington DC to see the war memorial.

Funded by private donations, the program founder says many veterans from the war stayed overseas long after the war was over, and never got a parade or recognition and now some can't afford to see their service honored.

The average trip costs 800-dollars but program organizers say every dollar counts.
