Hundreds Gather at Western Slope Vietnam Memorial for Ceremony

From Europe to the jungles of Vietnam to the deserts of the Middle East men and women have given their lives for this country and Tuesday, ceremonies across the valley honored those veterans.

Hundreds gathered to hear the bagpipes at the Western Slope Vietnam War Memorial park in Fruita.

Former Mayor Jim Doody founded the memorial in honor of his brother who was killed in action and other western slope veterans.

General Harry Hagaman of the USMC spoke at the ceremony and says Veteran's Day is a reminder to remember the sacrifices of all veterans.

"We have a wonderful country and many of our people don't realize what it took to keep our country safe."

Hundreds at the ceremony signed a banner which will be sent to troops serving in Iraq.
