Economy Effects Local Pampered Pooches
A poor economy has many people cutting out un–necessary expenses, but does this include pampering our pooches?
Cori Popejoy is the proud owner of a boxer she says she used to spend about $200 a year getting her dog groomed, but recently she has cut that number in half. Popejoy says, "it's one extra cost we have that we don't need to do we can actually do it at home."
Cuts like that have one local business making some cuts of its own. Jack Laney, Grooming Manager at HGJ’s Grooming says, "we did have to cut about half of our staff over the past few months." Laney says the small business has had to lay off three of its six employees, they say this is because of taxes and customer drop–off. Though Laney says business is picking up as the holiday’s approach.
Lisa Searcy with The Pet Spa says they've been slammed regardless of what time of year it is. Searcy says, "we have such loyal clients that take such good care of their dogs, we have groomers that are booked into January." But both businesses agree that regular, loyal customers keep their business from getting too “ruffed” up. Popejoy says, "i'd much rather bring him here it’s professionally done and he smells better and looks better."
Grooming prices range anywhere from 30 to 60 dollars depending on the size of the dog.
