Montrose Stabbing Suspect to be Charged As Adult

Students of Montrose High School are evacuated after a school-wide lock down following an attack on a 16-year-old female student early Tuesday morning Nov. 11, 2008 in Montrose Colo.

The Montrose County District Attorney's Office has filed formal charges against the teen suspected of stabbing a Montrose High School student.

With the help of our friends at the Montrose Daily Press, 11 News has learned 14–year–old Michael Yates is being charged as an adult with attempted first degree murder and conspiracy to commit first degree assault.

Police say on November 11 Yates walked into Montrose High School and stabbed 17–year–old Mallory Haulman in the neck while she waited for class with her sister. Haulman had to undergo surgery but is now back at school.

Police say the attack was premeditated. The teen was found by police outside the school and arrested.

He's being held at Grand Mesa Youth Services. Yates will be back in court on Wednesday.

    You know what i go to Central High school and theirs a whole lot more pepole here then montrose i think that kid just wanted to be talked about somthing. Nothing like that happens here just fights and a little abit of drugs
