With a bailout plan for automakers on hold in Washington, Grand junction car dealers are trying to clear their lots before the end of the year. Local car dealers say sales for their used cars are up but they say it may be a better investment to buy new.

The Red Tag Sale, Toyotathon, or getting a vehicle for the price the manufacturer pays, Dealers say the combination of low interest rates and high rebates allow their customers to cash in. Clint Sullivan with Ed Bozarth’s Chevrolet says "the price you’re getting and the rebates your getting is the best it's been all year."

Dealers also say it'll never be better than right now to buy a new car. Ken Simon the sales manager at Western Slope Auto Sales says, "if your waiting and wondering what's going to happen, you'll never find a better price than right now." Both Simon and Sullivan say they understand customers’ apprehension and confusion over the auto bailout situation, but say regardless of the government’s decision on a bailout you're car isn't going anywhere. Sullivan says, "they're still going to build the cars, the warranty is still going to be backed, the cars are to be the same. Its just a matter of how they operate."

The Ford deal at Western Slope Auto ends on January 1, 2009 and the “Red Tag Sale” Ed Bozarths Chevrolet ends at the end of this month.
