The Garfield County Sheriff's Office has warned residents living near the Anterro rig off County Road 346 near Silt, to be ready to evacuate. There's a leak on one of the rigs that's spewing water and possibly natural gas into the air.
Tanny McGinnis, the spokesperson for the Garfield County Sheriff's office tells 11 news she was first told of the incident at about 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Crews with Garfield County Emergency Management were called to the scene and got a plan of action into place. They told residents to be on standby, in case they needed to leave the area quickly. McGinnis says the rig is located near 6 1/2 mile marker on County Road 346. McGinnis says the area is not heavily populated but there is some livestock in the area, and the Sheriff's office is prepared to evacuate animals too if necessary.
The Garfield County Sheriff's office says the company who owns the rig, Anterro Resources, is working to cap the leak.
