Tuesday's deadly train accident has some schools revisiting railroad safety.

Palisade High School says its had problems with students walking near the railroad tracks and has even had to call out the Mesa County Sheriff's Office to write tickets for trespassing.

They say they've cracked down on the issue and continue to remind students to stay off the railroad property.

Central High School and Fruita Monument High School are also within walking distance of railroad tracks and Palisade Principal Matthew Diers says all of the schools have taken a proactive approach.

"We are vigilant and we do try to make sure that students know that that's an off limits area and that if needs be then it becomes a law enforcement issue and they get cited."

Principal Diers also hopes parents will talk to their kids about railroad safety to avoid any potential problems.
