Another weekend -- another rough morning for Mesa Mall and other local businesses, after an equipment failure left them without power for just more than a hour Saturday.
Officials with Xcel Energy say just after 9:00 Saturday morning, a switch cabinet box near IHOP overloaded and burned out, causing problems with one of their main power feeders. As a result they say 739 customers, including Mesa Mall and most businesses west of 25 1/2 Road lost power.
Most traffic lights in the area were out and businesses were forced to temporarily close.
Just two weeks ago, a water main break and a power outage caused many of those same businesses to close for hours, and in some cases the entire day. That was not the case Saturday morning, however, as power was completely restored to the area by 10:10am.
