A cut gas line leaves residents of three towns without any gas overnight.

Xcel Energy says just before midnight Saturday, a back hoe operator cut through one of their main gas lines, where it runs through Rullison. As a result, officials say the towns of Parachute, Battlement Mesa, and De Beque were completely out of gas by 2:00am.

Crews worked for hours repairing the line and were able to restore gas flow to all three towns by 4:00am.

Fifteen crews have spent most of the day in those areas, relighting pilots in all of their customers' homes to get their gas running again. Xcel says those crews will continue to work after dark and is asking anyone who still needs their pilot relit to turn on their porch lights.

Crews were able to find the back hoe that had cut the line -- but not the driver, who they believe took off after cutting the line. The Garfield County Sheriff's Office says two detectives are currently investigating the case. No arrests have been made at this time.
