The Roice Hurst Humane Society is the only no kill facility in the Grand Valley and now thanks to the generosity of the community, it'll soon be able to hold even more animals.

The down turning economy has more and more people needing to turn over their pets to someone who can afford to care for them. Lana Fergeson, President of the Roice Hurst Board of Directors says, “some people just can't afford to keep their animals and we're finding a greater demand for us to take them."

Tough economic times also hit the humane society a few months ago, it almost had to shut the doors and lock the cages for good but now new additions are being made at Roice Hurst Human Society. The kennels are still open and expanding and the humane society says that’s because of the generosity of the community. Right now Roice Hurst is home to 30 dogs and roughly 100 cats that are looking for loving owners; now the facility is expanding the dog kennels 20 to 25 feet, Fergeson says to hold more dogs and give them more room to run.

Where the office once was will soon be a large room so the cats can play together and roam around and there's another room just like it for kittens.
The humane society hopes to be able to have most expansions done and accept more animals by the end of the year.
