The Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau say it’s seen its first decrease in lodging tax collection in five years.

The bureau says it made roughly 3,000 dollars less in November compared to the same month in 2007. Division manager Barbara Bowman says this decrease doesn't mean that business is down but that the growth level here is stabilizing. She attributes this to the fact that hotel rates have remained fairly constant over the past year and few hotel rooms have been added in the city.

Overall in 2008 the city has seen a 14 percent increase in lodging tax collection.
