After weeks of hearing how energy costs are going up, some good news for Xcel Energy customers. The company has filed to lower electric rates.
Xcel energy filed its electric commodity adjustment rider with the Colorado public utilities commission this afternoon. If approved, officials say electric rates would drop 13% for residential and small business customers. They say that saves about $8.10 month for a household and $13.29 a month for a business.
Officials say the decrease in their rates is due in part to the decrease in fuel costs.
The new rates would not take effect until January of next year.
