Unemployment rates are skyrocketing throughout the country, but Mesa County has been shielded from that so far.
However, there is another statistic throwing up a red flag for the County.
When an area has unemployment rate below five-percent that area is known as fully employed, and Mesa County is at four-percent.
David Porfirio with the Mesa County Workforce says our unemployment rates are still better than most of the country, but there are some local industries with few open position and hundreds of applicants.
For office jobs, there were 9 applicants per job in all of 2007, as of Wednesday, there were 49 applicants per position.
In construction, there were a dozen applying per position last year, and now there are sixty.
