One man is in handcuffs after a chase and a short standoff at Grand Junction apartment complex. Officials with the Colorado State Patrol and the Mesa County Sheriff's Office tell 11 news they were on the tail of a suspect when he turned into the Garfield apartments, located off orchard avenue.
The call came in just before 3:30 and the standoff ended just after 4 o’clock.
As troopers searched for the suspect, School District 51 says Nisley Elementary became a “shelter in place” for about 20 minutes. Shelter in Place is a precautionary lockdown where exterior doors in the school are locked. School officials say there was no immediate threat to the school. Kids were bused home, parents were allowed to pick up students and now the campus is back to normal.
