DENVER - Apparently Broncos team owner Pat Bowlen has decided to build on the team's strength, the offense, choosing to hire Patriots Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels to replace Mike Shanahan as head coach.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN first reported that the Broncos held a second interview with McDaniels and have reached an agreement with the 32-year-old coach.

McDaniels has worked 8 seasons in the NFL, all with New England. He began as an assistant in the scouting department and rose to the position of offensive coordinator beginning with the 2007 season.

Before his firing Shanahan was also the Broncos VP of operations. McDaniels will not fill that role. Bowlen will now look for a general manager to handle free agency and the draft.
