A mother and her son were able to escape after their home caught fire Thursday evening.
The fire started around six pm at a home on Placer Drive.
Both were able to get out before the Grand Junction Fire Department got there. The elderly mother was on oxygen and was taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation. Fire fighters believe the oxygen in the house may have helped fuel the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The home is considered a total loss.
