Power is now back on at several Horizon Drive businesses and the Grand Junction Airport after outages Monday morning.
This is not the first time power problems have plagued the area..
businesses say they're frustrated and want a fix but 11 News Reporter Jessica Zartler went to Xcel for answers and found out that fix may be a long way away.
More than 1,000 customers were without power Monday morning in the Horizon Drive corridor.
"It gets pretty annoying," Horizon Liquor owner Becky Jackson told 11 News Monday.
She says it's been a problem over the past year, power outages every two to three months.
"Where it costs us is our credit card machines are down so people that don't carry cash we can't service," said Jackson.
Fred Eggleston with Xcel Energy says the company has been working on it. He says the problem is finding a path to lay new cable.
"It's probably one of the most complex areas in Grand Junction to try to work with utilities," Eggleston told 11 News on Monday.
Xcel has already finished replacing cables on Horizon north of I-70 and Eggleston says that's helping to restore power faster, but crews are still working on the south side.
"We'll be there and we'll replace it sometime but right now I can't give a date."
Eggleston says it could be at least a year before crews start construction and is asking businesses to hang tight.
But Becky Jackson says patience can't make the credit card machine work or keep the lights on.
"We still try to stay open and struggle through," Jackson told 11 News on Monday.
She says she'll do the best she can to keep the doors open and cash in the register.
