As Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States early Tuesday a nation watched in awe, including some students at Orchard Ave Elementary school in Grand Junction.
More than one hundred students watched on a big screen as Barack Obama took the presidential oath. Fifth grader Olivia Kleespies says, "we actually get to watch it instead of missing it because this is an important moment." 5th grade teacher Shannon Morlan says this school year, also a year of a presidential election has been an interesting one. She says in their class's mock election most students saw themselves as republican, and many of the kids were less than thrilled with Obama’s win in November, but the young minds soon changed some of their opinion.
Moran says of her students, "they were actually listening to him instead of parents and other things they heard, they were starting to think for themselves about what he's actually saying."
The students sure seemed excited Tuesday watching the events in Washington unfold right in the schools gymnasium.
