Both westbound lanes of Interstate 70 are now open after being shut down for hours because of a fatal six car pile up, just east of Palisade.
Colorado State Patrol opened one lane at about 11:30pm Tuesday night to allow traffic through the area. They were able to open the other lane shortly after that.
When both lanes were closed, some drivers were stuck for four and a half hours as crews worked to clear the mess near mile marker 44.
Officials say the crash happened just before 7:00pm Tuesday and invovled five vehicles and one semi truck.
One person was pronounced dead on the scene and two others were rushed to the hospital. At this time officials are not releasing details on the victims identities or conditions. They say the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
