Mesa County Schools are bracing for budget cuts.

Earlier this week the governor announced he would cut $600 million out of the state budget and told 11 news nobody would be spared including schools.

Dstrict 51 officials say they've heard preliminary numbers from the state and are expecting a $2.3 million cut.

They say they're looking at ways to trim the budget but are not sure what will get the axe yet.

"At this time we're looking at what that reduction might look like and how to balance that reduction. We're looking at opportunities within our current budget at this point we don't know," Mesa County School District 51 spokesman told 11 News on Friday.

The district says the cuts could be worse and $2.3 million is nly a little more than one percent of next year's budget.

SINCE THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION BELIEVES THEY ARE SO QUALIFIED TO HANDLE OUR SCHOOL FUNDS THAT THEY ONLY NOW REALIZE THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF FUNDS THEY SHOULD LEAD THE WAY IN EXAMPLE BY CUTTING THEIR SALARIES BY AT LEAST 30%.ALTHOUGH THEY WOULD STILL BE WAY OVERPAID IT WOULD BE A START. MAYBE THEY COULD ASK THE COLLEGE FOR A LOAN.
