A plan to open new coal mines, near Loma was the topic of discussion in Fruita last night.
The Bureau of Land Management held an open house, to get public comment and to answer questions about the draft environmental statement. Some concerns were raised over the new rail lines that would be built to accommodate the mines. But most people agreed that the mine will bring needed jobs to the community.
If you would like to comment on the draft environmental statement, the BLM is taking written comments until March 17th.
The final impact statement should be completed in the fall.
