Crews are tearing down Mesa State's first student center. They're working on a replacement for the old building. Students and faculty gathered to watch the event.

Funding for the project came from a fee hike approved by the students. Lena Elliott with Mesa State say while it was sad to see the building go it makes way for something even better. "A couple of staff said to me, 'I lived half of my life in that building, their taking it away from me.' And I assured them that they are going to love the new building they are going into."

Demolition will take several weeks. Besides the new college center there will also be a new parking garage.
