For Immediate Release
Wanted: Heroes in our community
For their third annual awards ceremony, the American Red Cross is now seeking nominations for real heroes, people who may have saved lives or helped others selflessly.
A hero may be a firefighter or bystander who forges into a burning building to save a life. A hero may be a teacher or aide who recognizes hunger in the eyes of a child and who helps.
A hero may be someone who cares so much about the environment to launch a new recycling program.
The Western Colorado Chapter of the American Red Cross will salute these heroes at its annual Foremost Response Real Heroes Breakfast, March 26, 2009. But to do that, the Red Cross first needs to find the heroes.
The Red Cross is taking nominations for these categories:
• Educator. Teacher, administrator, or aide.
• Emergency services. Hospital ambulance, clinic, EMT or 911 dispatcher.
• Firefighter. City, county, or state.
• Good Samaritan. Adult, 21 or older
• Good Samaritan. Youth. Under 21.
• Humanitarian Service. Volunteer service.
• Military. Member of the U.S. Armed Forces.
• Law enforcement. City, county, state, or military.
• Animal, nature, or water rescue. Individual saves animal or animal saves individual.
• Environment. Individual who made a positive impact on the environment.
The Red Cross knows the communities of Western Colorado are filled with these heroes and wants to thank them for their service to others.
Nominations will be accepted through Feb. 27.
Heroic acts must have been done in 2008.
Nomination forms are available at the chapter or may be found online at www.redcrosswesterncolorado.org.
