(Grand Junction, CO)- The Grand Junction Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened on Hwy 6&50 at 24 ¾ Rd.
Just after 2am this morning, the driver of an SUV with two other passengers inside crashed into a traffic light pole at that intersection.
The front passenger was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The driver and the rear passenger were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with unknown injuries.
All three people inside the SUV are young adult men.
All lanes of Hwy 6 & 50 in both directions were shut down from the time of the crash until just after 9am while officers investigated and began reconstructing the accident to determine exactly what happened.
At this time investigators are looking into the possibility that alcohol was a factor in this crash and are determining whether the driver will be charged with a crime.
The names of those involved in the crash are not being released at this time.
Mesa County Coroner’s Office officials will release the name of the person who died once they have confirmed the identity and notified the next of kin.
